The Indian film industry mourns the loss of Govardhan Asrani, popularly known as Asrani, who passed away in Mumbai today after a prolonged illness. The veteran actor, whose illustrious career spanned more than five decades, was 84.
Asrani was one of Bollywood’s most versatile performers, seamlessly transitioning between comedy and serious roles. He became a household name with memorable performances in classics such as Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar, and Gol Maal.
Known for his trademark humor, impeccable timing, and expressive acting, Asrani carved a niche that few could match. His contribution extended beyond acting, as he also directed several films and mentored emerging talent in the industry.
His last rites were performed at the Santacruz Crematorium, attended by family, friends, and members of the film fraternity who gathered to pay their respects.
Asrani’s passing marks the end of an era — a reminder of the golden age of Indian cinema where laughter met storytelling in its purest form.
May his soul rest in peace. 🕊️
