Fatorda, Sept 17, 2025 — FC Goa began their AFC2 campaign on a disappointing note, suffering a 2-0 defeat against Iraqi side Al Zawraa SC at Fatorda Stadium.
The visitors struck twice, capitalizing on defensive lapses in the first half, and despite FC Goa’s valiant second-half fightback, the Gaurs failed to find the net.
Cheered on by home supporters, FC Goa pressed hard in the latter stages, creating multiple chances. However, poor finishing and Al Zawraa’s resilient defense denied them a comeback.
With this result, Al Zawraa SC start strong in Group Stage play, while FC Goa will need to regroup quickly ahead of their next match against FC Istiklol on October 1 (away fixture).
FC Goa coach and players remained optimistic post-match, stressing the importance of learning from the opening loss and bouncing back stronger in their upcoming fixtures.
The Fatorda crowd, though disappointed with the result, applauded the Gaurs’ determination and fighting spirit until the final whistle.
As the AFC2 tournament unfolds, FC Goa will aim to sharpen their attack and improve their finishing to stay competitive in a challenging group.
