As the beloved video game icon Mario gears up to celebrate his 40th anniversary this week, the internet is already buzzing with speculation about his next big-screen adventure. In a curious development, NBCUniversal has quietly registered several domain names linked to a possible ‘Super Mario Galaxy’ movie, ahead of Nintendo’s highly anticipated Direct broadcast scheduled for later today.
The domain discoveries have ignited fan theories that the upcoming animated sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, set for release in April 2026, may be officially titled Super Mario Galaxy. While no official announcements have been made by Nintendo or Universal Pictures, the timing of these registrations has led many to believe that news could drop during the Direct.
Adding fuel to the fire, earlier references to the Super Mario Galaxy title appeared briefly on a web page before being swiftly taken down—a classic sign of information released prematurely.
When Nintendo originally announced the follow-up movie in March 2024, creator Shigeru Miyamoto noted it would be “based on the world of the Super Mario Bros. series,” but provided no further specifics. With today’s Nintendo Direct expected to touch on both current and upcoming Mario content, fans are hopeful this could include both a cinematic and possibly a gaming return to the fan-favorite Galaxy universe.
Whether this turns out to be an official confirmation or just a cautious step in production planning, one thing is certain: Mario’s legacy continues to expand beyond the Mushroom Kingdom—and possibly into the stars once again.
