Goa University’s Prof. Ramrao Wagh Clinches Top Honours at National Geospatial Awards 2025

Panaji, July 19, 2025 — Goa’s academic excellence took center stage at the National Geospatial Awards 2025 as Shri Ramrao Wagh, Associate Professor at Goa University, was conferred with two prestigious national awards. He was honoured with the Best University (National) Award and the National Geospatial Emerging Faculty Fellow Award in recognition of his pioneering contributions to the field of geospatial science and technology.

These awards are among the highest recognitions in India’s geospatial community, celebrating individuals and institutions that drive innovation, research, and excellence in GIS, remote sensing, and related domains.

Prof. Wagh has been a leading figure in developing and integrating geospatial technology into academic and applied research across Goa and India. His work spans curriculum development, GIS-based data analysis, and the mentoring of emerging scholars in the domain. These efforts have significantly raised the profile of Goa University as a hub for geospatial excellence.

The National Geospatial Awards are hosted annually by key national bodies promoting geoinformatics and remote sensing in India, bringing together top educators, researchers, and technologists from across the country.

This dual recognition not only underscores the strength of Goa’s academic ecosystem but also aligns with the broader vision of integrating technological education with national innovation and sustainability goals.

As geospatial technologies become increasingly vital to sectors like urban planning, environmental management, and disaster response, recognitions such as these place Goa University — and its dedicated faculty — on the national map of academic and technological leadership.
