AESF President Applauds India’s Historic Esports Golds at WESC

New Delhi / Riyadh – July 2025: India’s esports scene is celebrating a landmark moment after clinching its first-ever international gold medals at the World Esports Championship (WESC)—a feat that has drawn high praise from the Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF).

In a statement following the triumph, AESF President Kenneth Fok congratulated Team India for their outstanding performance at WESC and hailed it as a “major milestone” in India’s growing digital sports journey.

“India’s performance at WESC is a proud moment not only for the country but for Asian esports as a whole,” Fok said. “The achievements of Indian players show how far the ecosystem has come in a short time, and it signals a bright future for esports in the region.”

The gold medal wins came in two categories—one under the WAVES (Women and Allied Virtual Esports Series) initiative and the other in the main WESC tournament, with Indian teams showcasing exceptional coordination, reflexes, and strategic prowess.

This victory comes amid rising global recognition of esports as a legitimate competitive sport, with India emerging as a key player in Asia’s digital sports ecosystem. The WAVES initiative, which promotes women and allied communities in esports, marked a significant leap in gender-inclusive participation—and India’s success in this division drew special commendation from AESF for its leadership role.

Backed by initiatives from the Esports Federation of India (ESFI) and growing investment in infrastructure, training, and talent development, India’s gaming community is evolving rapidly. Industry experts say the WESC medals are more than just symbolic—they represent a turning point in mainstream recognition and national pride in esports.

With over 500 million gamers and a youth-driven market, India is set to play a leading role in shaping the future of competitive digital sports.
