Tata Group to Handle iPhone and MacBook Repairs in India

Apple deepens ‘Make in India’ ties by entrusting Tata with after-sales service

June 20, 2025 | New Delhi – India just got a serious service upgrade — and it’s not coming from a software update. In a move that solidifies its growing footprint in India, Apple has officially transferred its iPhone and MacBook repair operations in the country to the Tata Group. Known for its vast industrial reach — from steel and software to cars, tea, and airlines — Tata will now also be in charge of fixing your Apple devices.

🔧 From Assembly Lines to Repair Desks: Tata Steps Up

This isn’t Tata’s first rodeo with Apple. Tata Electronics already assembles iPhones in Karnataka, quietly powering Apple’s Make in India ambitions. But now, the partnership is leveling up: Apple is entrusting Tata not just with manufacturing, but with end-to-end customer care, including complex device repairs.

“Tata is evolving from a manufacturing partner to a full-stack Apple service partner,” said an industry executive familiar with the deal.

🛠️ Who Handled Repairs Earlier?

Until now, Apple’s complex repairs in India — especially motherboard-level and logic board repairs — were managed by ICT Service Management Solutions, a unit under Wistron, one of Apple’s original OEM partners in India. However, as Apple streamlines its India operations under trusted local partnerships, Tata Electronics will take over the service mantle.

This shift is expected to improve:

  • Turnaround times on repairs
  • Local availability of spare parts
  • Customer satisfaction and post-sale support experience

🇮🇳 Why It Matters: The India Strategy

This move is part of Apple’s deeper strategy to localize not just production, but the entire product lifecycle in India — from assembly to after-sales service. With one of the fastest-growing premium smartphone markets in the world, India represents a massive growth opportunity for Apple.

And Tata, India’s most trusted conglomerate, is perfectly positioned to bridge Apple’s global standards with Indian operational scale.

“This marks a new era of premium service accessibility for Indian Apple users,” said a senior analyst at Counterpoint Research.

💡 What Can Consumers Expect?

While Apple-authorized service centers will still carry Apple branding, the operations behind them will now be managed by Tata Electronics. This includes:

  • Repairs for iPhones, MacBooks, and possibly other Apple products
  • Use of Apple-authorized parts and diagnostic tools
  • Maintenance of global service standards and warranty terms

Tata’s expanding tech workforce and infrastructure are expected to decrease wait times and improve service transparency.

🔄 What’s Next?

With Tata now managing repairs and assembling devices, Apple could soon centralize even more operations in India — from supply chain logistics to retail expansion. Reports hint at future Apple Stores opening in Tier 2 cities and a wider network of authorized service centers backed by Tata’s logistics and manpower.

📱 In Summary:

Apple + Tata = Full-circle India presence
From building your iPhone to fixing it when it breaks, Tata is now powering both ends of your Apple experience in India.
