In a proud moment for Goa’s art community, local artist Sunil Lingu Shirodkar has been awarded third prize at the prestigious All India Art Competition and Exhibition 2024 (Sixth Edition), held at the State Gallery of Art, Hyderabad, Telangana. Shirodkar’s thought-provoking mixed media canvas artwork titled ‘Ribs’ earned him national acclaim among a competitive field of emerging and established artists from across the country.
The annual exhibition, a prominent fixture on India’s contemporary art calendar, is known for showcasing innovative and diverse artistic expressions. Shirodkar, a self-taught artist based in Goa Velha, stood out with his abstract style and emotionally resonant piece, which explores themes of vulnerability and resilience through layered textures and structural motifs.
The organisers lauded Shirodkar’s work and artistic journey, describing him as “a self-taught visionary whose work reflects the power of passion over formal constraints.” His recognition highlights not only his personal dedication but also the growing influence of Goan artists on the national stage.
This latest accolade adds to Shirodkar’s reputation as a unique voice in Indian abstract art, and further underscores the vitality of regional talent in shaping the broader narrative of contemporary Indian art.
