13-Year-Old Faizan Zaki Wins 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee

Indian-American student Faizan Zaki, 13, from Texas, has emerged as the champion of the 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee after correctly spelling the word “éclaircissement.” His victory continues the long-standing tradition of Indian-American excellence in the prestigious U.S. competition.

Zaki, a seventh-grader at C M Rice Middle School, outlasted more than 240 competitors from across the nation to claim the top spot. He defeated fellow finalist Sarvadnya Kadam in the final round held on Thursday night, winning the Scripps Cup, a $50,000 cash prize, a trophy, and a medal in the Bee’s 100th edition.

This marks a major comeback for Zaki, who finished as the runner-up in the 2024 Bee after a spell-off against Bruhat Soma, another Indian-American competitor.
