Manohar International Airport (GOX), developed and operated by GMR Goa International Airport Ltd. (GGIAL), has been honored with the esteemed Build India Infra Awards 2025 for Sustainability in the Civil Aviation Sector. This prestigious award recognizes the airport’s outstanding commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability.
The award was presented by Shri Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, Hon’ble Minister for Civil Aviation, at a ceremony held at The Ashoka Hotel, New Delhi. The event was supported by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) and the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MOCA).
As an IGBC Platinum-certified airport, Manohar International Airport has demonstrated its dedication to sustainability through various initiatives. The airport has implemented multiple energy-efficient measures, including:
- LED lighting across all buildings and Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) systems
- Electric power for Ground Handling Equipment and buses
- Onsite 5 MWp Solar PV generation unit to supply electric power to the airport
To reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, GGIAL has deployed:
- Fixed Electrical Ground Power (FEGP) and Pre-Conditioned Air (PCA) systems
- Fuel Hydrant System for aircraft refueling, eliminating the need for fuel bowser movement on airside
The airport also features an advanced rainwater harvesting system, comprising inline rainwater harvesting pits and recharge ponds, which recharges up to 30% of harvested rainwater during the monsoon season.
